Ans. In first generation computers (1949-55) vaccum tubes were used.

In second generation computers (1956-65) transistor, magnetic tapes and disks were used.

In third generation computers (1966-75) integrated circuits were used.

In fourth generation computers (1976-present) microprocessor chips which were smaller and faster were used.

In fifth generation computers (coming generation) parallel-processing and superconductors were used.
